AFRICAN-AMERICAN SKIN CARE ISSUESBy: Bay Harbour Med Spa ( Miami Beach, Florida)

WRITTEN EXCLUSIVELY FOR BAY HARBOUR MED SPA. COYRIGHTED INFORMATION. DUPLICATION IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Lets face it, no matter what the pigment of your skin color may be we all suffer from skin care issues. However, the treatment of these issues due differ because men and women of dark or black complexion have certain biological issues that differ from men and women of lighter skin. If not treated carefully by an expert who understands and has experience treating dark or black skin more harm than good can be caused.

BAY HARBOUR MED SPA located in Miami Beach specifically caters to the skin care needs of Indian or African-American men and women. Eva Taub has been treating dark complexed men and women for over 30 years. Eva Taub started out her career in Czechoslovakia and trained and worked in the Middle-East treating men and women of dark to black skin.

With over 30 years of experience in African-American skin, it is conclusive that there are certain skin care issues that are prevalent amongst dark or black pigmented men and women.

Acne: Acne in African-Americans can cause long lasting discolorations to the skin. It is important that black skin is treated with more care because there are products on the market that can cause pigment damage and the utmost care and knowledge is paramount when treating acne of black skin. Bay Harbour Med Spa carries products that are derived of natural fruit, vegetable or vitamin extracts which will help fight the bacteria causing the acne safely and effectively.

The etiology of acne is unknown. However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produce. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop. While teens are more susceptible to acne, men and women in their 20's-40's can get acne as well.

Ingrown Hairs of the face and beard ( Razor Bumps) in both men and women:Bay Harbour Med Spa is the South Florida pioneer in hair reduction treatments specifically geared to treat this issue amongst dark or black skin. Bay Harbour Med Spa offers the only FDA laser hair reduction technology approved to safely and effectively treat black skin without causing any discoloration to the skin. Another issue in African-American skin care is ingrown hairs. While we often think that this only affects men, a large number of African-American women suffer from unwanted facial hair and as a result of shaving they get painful razor bumps. African-Americans have very course hair that is curved and often as a result of a close shave the curved hair will curl back into the skin causing painful and irritated razor bumps.

Hyper Pigmentation of the skin:African American skin has larger melanosomes (cells that determine skin color ) and the melanosomes contain more of the pigment melanin than those found in white skin. Because of the protective effect of melanin, African-Americans are better protected against skin cancer and premature wrinkling from sun exposure. Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation is quite common in dark skinned individuals, even after minor trauma. An area of the skin may darken after an injury such as a cut or a scrape, or after certain skin disorders such as acne. To avoid or reduce post inflammatory hyper pigmentation, avoid picking and harsh scrubbing. The only safe treatment to help with this issue is Crystal Microdermabrasion which gently and progressively ( several treatments are required) will abrade ( peel off) layers of the skin generating the growth of new skin cells. This process allows for the old skin to be gently sloughed off and new skin to grow resulting in lighter skin tone.

For 13 years Bay Harbour Med Spa has been treating African-Americans with the Crystal Microdermabrasion medical grade machine and the results have been phenomenal.

Be it your face, upper lip, side burns, chin, neck, forehead, ears, chest, areolas, under arms, arms, hands, toes, fingers, buttocks, legs, bikini, and back.

These treatments are permanent hair removal, but they are not a one time treatment. Treatments need to be repeated every 4-6 weeks. The reason for this is that human hairs grow in circles and stages. In order for laser to destroy the hair follicles, the hair has to be in the growing stage. Growing stage happens only once every 3 months for about 2 weeks. The rest of the time the hairs go through different cycles of hair growth and cannot be destroyed, only weakened. Therefore, you need to do a series of treatments to destroy the hairs permanently. After each treatment you will see a substantial reduction of regrowth. Ingrown hairs are also going to disappear. Your facial hairs, bumps, curled up ingrown hairs, purple discoloration and painful razor bumps, will be totally eliminated. A clearer and more even skin toned face will emerge as soon as you start you laser hair removal treatments.

Miami Lase Hair Removal also has its unique technique to eliminate most of the discomfort of the laser hair removal treatment.

Our vast experience in the treatment of black skin will provide you with the most suitable skin care treatments and products for your skin. Our facials are customized to each individuals needs. For instance if you have enlarged pores, around your nose and cheeks, or very oily bumpy skin, we can treat and eliminate it with our customized abrasions and ultrasonic treatments. Please remember that black skin is very different then white skin, and what is suitable for white skin is not suitable for dark skin. One has to be very carefull not to use harsh products and or treatments on dark and black skin as that can create more discoloration. It is also very important to understand that black skin contrary to popular belief needs to be protected from the UVA's harmful sun rays. It is a misconception to believe that just because your skin is dark you do not need to protect it from the ultra violet rays. Sun block or zinc should be a part of your daily routine. Did you know that there is a steady rise in skin cancer in the black population? So remember smart and good advice is hair free, bump free, acne free skin starts with Miami Laser Hair Removal & Skin Care Clinic and ends with a sun block.
